COMPETITIONS – The tests
Organisation Mondiale de la Coiffure (OMC) creates and regularly updates the competition rules. All competitions are based on very precise rules.
Good to know:
- The competition tests are combined. For example in the technical category: Creative and Hair by Night; in the fashion category: Day Style and Evening Style… In view of a classification, it is mandatory for the competitors to participate in both tests of a category.
- All tests are first subject to classification on an individual base. This classification allows the calculation of the team results and to find the World Champions, European Champions…
- In the senior tests the competitors can choose to work on live models or mannequin heads. Once they have made their choice, they must do both tests either on models or on mannequin heads.
- The age limit for junior competitors is 22 years (the day of the 23th birthday being excluded). There is no age limit for senior competitors, meaning that competitors of all ages can participate in the senior tests, even if they are under 22!
LADIES TESTS
DAY STYLE
High technicality is required, associated to a “magazine” look. The movements must be light and ample. No supporting tools (pins…) are allowed; the hairstyle must be done exclusively with fixing and finishing products.
EVENING STYLE
A subtle association of creativity, technicality and coloring result. Perfection must be reached in a very short time, notably be creating movements and perfect straightening.
CREATIVE
One priority: show originality during the whole test (advance preparation of cut and color, and styling the day of the competition). The style is essential: shape, enhancement of color, cut… The cuts put emphasis on an unconventional look (undercut, progressively emphasized movement…). The work must be impeccable, fineness and delicacy of the finish enhance the result.
HAIR BY NIGHT
One of the flagship tests of the competitions; the competitor must create a hairstyle suitable for a special event. 3 hairpieces will be harmoniously integrated into an updo. The outlines of the hairpieces must not be visible. One keyword: lightness. Like for a beautiful handwriting, there must be upstrokes and downstrokes, the designs may be inspired by the letters C or S. The finish must be perfect; the style must always be balanced, the colors perfectly positioned. The ornaments imagined by the competitor must be original and in good taste.
PROGRESSIVE CUT & STYLE
A competition combining extreme avant-garde and utmost precision. As to coloring, the placement of the colors requires inventiveness. All cuts must imperatively be very precise and impeccable.
BRIDAL HAIRSTYLE
Purity, fashion and glamour are required for this test, where the competitor may work on different hair textures. The competitor must be innovative, yet keep a certain tradition and couture spirit. The straightening must be impeccable.
GENTS TESTS
CLASSIC CUT
Rigor, regularity, consistency are a must to successfully carry out this test: the slightest mistake can be seen, the angular shape must be perfect and opaque. The very short cut down in the neck must be regular and go from very short towards longer hair.
CREATIVE
A general angular shape and the complete style has curved movements. Movements and colors must be original. Meticulousness of the shape is a must. The finish is done with tweezers.
FULL FASHION
This test requires creativity in association with fast execution. Essential: the competitor must be skilled in design and master consistency and creativity in coloring. Neatness and efficiency of work are assets because of the very short time of this test.
PROGRESSIVE
The keyword is precision of execution. The cut must be avant-garde with 5 cm minimum length on top of the head and 3 cm on the sides and in the back.
